Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study
Women’s political participation is vital for inclusive governance and sustainable development. Despite global advocacy for gender equality, women’s representation in politics remains low, particularly in regions like Jibia Local Government Area. Digital media has become a powerful tool for addressing this issue by amplifying women’s voices, raising awareness about political rights, and fostering civic engagement. Social media platforms, blogs, and online forums provide spaces for women to share their perspectives, network with political leaders, and advocate for gender equality. Studies by Ahmed and Bello (2024) demonstrate that digital media significantly enhances women’s political participation by providing access to information, reducing barriers to entry, and creating supportive communities. This study examines the role of digital media in promoting women’s political participation in Jibia, focusing on its effectiveness, challenges, and opportunities.
